Laudibus

Laudibus is a distinguished British youth choir recognized for its exceptional vocal quality and innovative approach to choral music. Founded in 1994 under the auspices of the National Youth Choir of Great Britain (NYCGB), Laudibus serves as an elite chamber choir composed of exceptionally talented young singers typically aged 18-25.

The ensemble takes its name from the Latin word “laudibus,” meaning “praises” or “with praise,” reflecting its initial focus on sacred choral music. However, Laudibus has developed a diverse repertoire spanning from Renaissance polyphony to contemporary compositions, folk music arrangements, and specially commissioned works.

Under its founding conductor David Lawrence, and later directors including Greg Beardsell and Ben Parry, Laudibus established itself as one of the UK’s premier youth vocal ensembles. The choir features approximately 20-24 singers selected from the National Youth Choir’s most accomplished members, representing the highest tier in the NYCGB’s progressive choral program.

Laudibus has performed at prestigious venues throughout the United Kingdom and internationally, including the BBC Proms, Royal Albert Hall, and various international choral festivals. The ensemble has collaborated with leading orchestras, including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and BBC Concert Orchestra, and worked with renowned composers on new commissions.

The choir has produced several acclaimed recordings showcasing both traditional choral repertoire and contemporary works. Laudibus serves as both a performance ensemble and a training ground for future professional singers, with many alumni going on to successful careers in opera, professional choirs, and solo performance.

Through its affiliation with the NYCGB, Laudibus continues to nurture exceptional young vocal talent while maintaining high standards of choral performance, contributing significantly to Britain’s rich choral tradition.

ds and the Classic FM Gramophone Artist of the Year Award. They have also established an education program called “Genesis Sixteen,” providing training for young singers at the start of their professional careers.

The Sixteen continues to perform worldwide, maintaining its position as one of the most significant interpreters of both early and contemporary choral music.
